The Gencat by EnviroGencat is a Catalytic muffler that eliminates 99% of the carbon monoxide that is put out by my Onan generator. I no longer have to worry about the fumes around my campsite or in my RV. Carbon Monoxide is a deadly gas, odorless, and tasteless that is slightly lighter than air. The GenCat replaces the exciting muffler. It is so easy to install. I would recommend this product to keep you and your family safe.

Yes! Please pick up after your pets! Doodie is not only hazardous because of the contaminants it can pass to humans and other pets, but some people find the mess offensive. It's never pleasant to find yourself stepping in it. If enough campers complain, campgrounds are able to enact a "No dogs allowed" rule, and that's no fun! We love camping with our pups!

The Central Indiana Camping & RV Show starts this Saturday January 7th, 2012. The RV show is held in Indianapolis, and the hours are:

Saturday January 11 & 14 10:00am - 9:00 pm
Sunday January 8 & 15 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Monday January 9 thru Friday January 13 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

This is the largest RV Show in Indiana and is a must-attend event. If you stay in Indianapolis, it is only a 10-minute drive to The Indiana State Fairgrounds, and you will experience the dining pleasures and shopping Mecca of downtown Indianapolis.
While you are there, stop and see the historic Indiana Speedway that hosts the Indy 500 every September.
If you want a break from the show, and you like the outdoors in the winter, there are many trails nearby to cross country ski, snow mobile, snow shoe or ice skate. It is a great week to see all of the new RV makes and models, to visit all of the RV exhibitors, and to see what’s new in accessories. At the same time, experience winter in the Midwest and all and take in a breath of Fresh Air.
We would like to hear your thoughts if you plan to attend this RV Event.

Leveling and Hooking Up Your RV

I visited a campground off of the Gulf Coast of Florida. It was my friend’s and my first time camping in an RV. Luckily, we had a seasoned RV camping veteran to teach us how to stabilize and hook up the travel trailer (before he left us to fend for ourselves). We camped in a Resort Travel Trailer. It’s important to remember that every camper is a little different and might require more actions. You should refer to your owner’s manual for further instructions.

The basic steps after pulling into your campsite are as follows:
  • **Stabilize
  • **Hook up Electricity
  • **Hook up Water
It was pretty simple, really. It’s faster and easier to do than writing a blog about it.

Stabilize
  • **Do you’re best to park on level ground and locate your leveling bubbles. Ours were on the left side next to the hook ups, and another on the back of the travel trailer.

  • **Place two leveling blocks and leveling jacks under the back axel, near each of the two back tires. Raise the leveling jacks until the backside leveling bubble is at zero. This means that the trailer is level from side-to-side.

  • **Once you have the trailer level from side-to-side, place a block under the hitch, unhitch and level it up from front to rear by making sure the leveling bubble on the side of the camper is at zero.

Hook up the Electricity
Electrical hookups typically come in three different varieties, 20 Amp, 30 Amp and 50 Amp. Our travel trailer was on a 20 Amp hook up.
  • **Locate the electrical box on the camper and at the campsite.

  • **Plug the power cord in, and Voila! You’re connected!

Hook up to the Water Supply
  • **Make sure you have a good hose with a proper seal in each side of the hose, so that water doesn’t leak.Hook up the hose to the water spigot.
  • **Hook up the other end of the hose to the RV.Turn on the spigot, and run the faucets in your RV to clear any rust or other materials that might have collected.

Now that you’re hooked up, you can enjoy all of the little luxuries that RV camping has to offer over primitive camping; clean water, a bathroom, and for me, a little amplifier so we can dance to Janis and Jimi as the sun sets off of the beautiful Florida coast.

Easy Corn on the Cobb

1 bag of frozen corn on the cobb
Butter
Salt
Pepper
Aluminum Foil

Place the individual ears of corn on aluminum foil. Cover with butter, salt and pepper. Wrap in the foil, twisting the ends and place on top of the open fire. It takes 5-10 minutes to cook, depending on how hot the fire is. Use tongs or mitts when removing the cobb packages, they will be very hot. Unwrap the aluminum foil and enjoy.

Fall Camping Trips

I took a trip in late September to the Santa Ynez Mountains which are located Santa Barbara, California.

These mountains are nothing like the rolling Appalachian Mountains that I’m used to. I crossed paths with giant walls of rock, which seemed impossible to scale. It takes an experienced mountain driver to navigate through these roads.

There was a thick fog sitting on the ocean, which made for breath taking sunsets. The scenery and mild weather of Santa Barbara County are the perfect conditions for a great fall camping trip.

This is a view of the sunset from the top of the mountains in Santa Barbara.

If you ever get a chance to make it out to the Pacific Coast, take a moment to appreciate the awesomeness of the Rockies blended with the serenity of the Pacific Ocean. Visit the Botanical Garden to learn more about the indigenous plant life, or relax in the Gaviota Hot Springs all year round.

Pictured below is the stairway to Thousand Steps Beach and has been a popular destination with visitors for over 100 years.

Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Roofs

Clara A

Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) is a material that RV manufacturers and dealers are starting to use for insulation and roofing. A Spray Polyurethane Foam Roof can last up to 20 years, and saves more energy than traditional roofing structures by sealing out more moisture and air. This type of roof will save you quite a sum of money in maintenance and energy costs. Spray Polyurethane Foam also adds structural strength to your RV and uses less material to build (less waste in the dump). If you're looking to install a new roof on your RV, we recommend you research the more environmentally friendly option of Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Roofs.

Breakfast Burritos on the Campfire

Cooking Supplies:
  • Campfire with a hot bed of coals
  • Large Skillet
  • Spatula
Food:
  • Cooking spray or butter
  • Medium Tortillas
  • 1 package of bacon
  • 2-3 eggs per person
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Onion (optional)
  • Cheese
  • Salt and Pepper

Step 1
Flatten a hot bed of coals and place the large skillet on top, and coat with a layer of cooking spray or butter

Step 2
Place the bacon on the skillet, while cooking the bacon, chop the onion and whisk the eggs.

Step 3
Aften the bacon is cooked, place aside on a paper towel and pour the eggs and chopped onion in the skillet. Cook eggs 5-7 minutes, stirring the eggs frequently and watching closely, because the temperature will be higher than normal for cooking eggs. Season with salt and pepper.

Step 4
Lay out Tortillas, add eggs, bacon and cheese. Fold in left and right sides, and roll from bottom to top to form your breakfast burrito. Enjoy this hand-held breakfast with no plates or silverware necessary!

Hobo Stew

This dish is a great meal for camping, and is traditionally made over a campfire. You can add or subtract the ingredients that you have available, and since they are individually wrapped, anyone can make a serving that suites their taste.

You will need:
- A kitchen knife
- A cutting board
- Aluminum foil
- Butter or Cooking Oil

Suggested Ingredients:
-Bell Peppers
-Zucchini
-A Red Onion
-Garlic
-Potatoes (must be cut to a quarter inch or thinner)
-Ground Beef
-Salt and Pepper
-A Creamy Soup like Cream of Mushroom

Additional or substitute ingredients:
-Corn
-Peas
-Cubed Beef
-Squash
-Tomatoes

- Start out by cleaning and chopping your ingredients into small chunks.
- Lay out the ingredients, buffet style so that everyone can choose their own ingredients.
- Tear two pieces of aluminum foil at about 18 inches each. Be careful not to tear the center of the foil.
- Take the butter or cooking oil and rub it into the center of one of the pieces of foil.
- Start by adding the potatoes first, because they take the longest to cool and should be closest to the heat source.
- Whatever other ingredients that you would like
- Sprinkle with Salt and Pepper.

More Efficient Hiking Tips

With camping season in full effect, now is the time to get out to nature, and
to really enjoy what the outdoors has to offer. As the weather cools off and the leaves
change color, the conditions are perfect to take long hikes, but what is the way to
get the most out of your hiking excursion?

I found an interesting article called " Advice from 30,000 miles on the Trail "
on www.HikingCamping.com. The writers give useful tips on how to pack lighter, and
how to make the most of your day when hiking.

Some of the tips included:
  • Efficient hiking = actually going hiking. The more that you go hiking, the
easier it will be and the more efficient you will become at it.
  • Think “fuel” not “meal”. Rely on nutritional science when packing food
for hiking. You can save space and time by packing things like energy
or protein bars instead of an entire meal for a picnic.
  • Use Trekking Poles. “They’ll help you hike faster, go farther, more
comfortably, with a greater sense of security on rough terrain, and with far
    less chance of injury.”
  • Don’t carry a heavy water filter. Use compact water purification
tablets to purify your drinking water.
  • Plan your hike in advance. Find a guidebook that will give you an
optimal scenic experience and plan your route before you head out to the trail.
This article is worth a read for newer campers who want to become better
hikers. The site also includes a lot of useful information about beautiful
trails, guidebooks and archives of stories based on the hobby.

Enjoy your trip and see you on the trail!

2011 FRVTA Heritage Park RV Show

The Herritage Park RV Show may have started off chilly, but warmed up into a beautiful, sunny show as the weekend went on and as consumer attendance grew. There were eight dealers displaying their inventories at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. I would like to thank all who stopped by the RV123 booth to learn about our website and to meet us.

The dealers who showed were Alliance Coach, Inc., Camping World of Greater Orlando, Independence RV, Top Notch Marine & RV, Leisure Time RV, Dream RV, Giant Recreation World, and I especially enjoyed meeting and talking with the gentlemen at RV Rentals. I would like to give a special thanks to the Regional Show Coordinator, Patty McCarson for handling all of the needs of the vendors this weekend. The enthusiasm she brought to the show every morning was nothing short of contagious.

The consumers who attended the show were interested in finding out more about RV123.com and the services we offer on the site. Site traffic is up, and many consumers were thrilled to find out that it’s always free to list their pre-owned model. We didn’t get as many consumers as we would have liked to take advantage of our camping special, but there is still time for you to sign up for the Thousand Trails Ready, Camp, Go! Card. Sign up with us at RV123.com and receive a complimentary card, which is good for discounted camping at participating Thousand Trails campgrounds.

I would like to give another thanks all of the nice folks that we met at the show this weekend; we are looking forward to seeing you in January for the FRVTA RV Supershow!

The 2011 RVDA was a huge success!

The 2011 RVDA (RV Dealers International Convention and Expo) was as always, a huge success! There was a good turnout at the show by both RV dealers and manufacturers who were displaying their inventory. The RVDA hosted a cocktail party for all show attendees on Monday evening, and it was a very relaxed way to mingle with fellow business associates.

Lunch was served buffet style, in the Expo Arena on both Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday evening, there were the usual industry parties. A few took place in the Voodoo Lounge, and the party my group attended was held at the Wine Cellar in the Rio. It was a great wine tasting party held by American Guardian, where they served excellent wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Andy Heck of Alpin Haus, Amsterdam NY, became RVDA’s new Chairman during the convention. Congratulations to Andy for this accomplishment!

Below are the following manufactures that were featured at the show:

Airstream
Carriage
Crossroads RV
Cruiser RV
DRV Luxury Suites
Dutchman Manufacturing
El Monte
Evergreen RV
Heartland RV
Keystone RV Company
KZ RV
Lance Camper Manufacturing
Leisure Travel Van's/Triple E RV
Livin' Lite RV
MVP RV
Outdoor RV Manufacturing
Pacific Coachworks
Pleasure Way
Roadtrek Motorhomes
Skyline Corporation

The RV dealer seminars were both informational and entertaining. RV123 and Systems 2000 held back to back seminars early on Tuesday morning with a strong turnout. Carl Sconnley gave the technical presentation, which was informative and included our future plans for RV123. I gave the dealer package and cost presentation, which was well received. The RVDA was the first industry show RV123 has exhibited in; it was our inauguration into the industry. We will also be attending at the RVIA show in Louisville, K.Y. in December.

RV123 received an excellent response from the attending dealers. Everyone exhibited an upbeat attitude, which made for a very pleasurable time for all RV Dealer's and Exhibitors who took part in the convention. We are all truly looking forward to the 2012 RVDA Convention.
