Date of Visit: Mar 2016

We’re the type of travelers who don’t like being tied down to a schedule dictated by reservation dates. But we have learned that March is a tough month for wanderers, so we broke down a few weeks ago and made a couple of reservations, incuding a week at Bogue Chitto. Thanks to a forecast deluge, we left our previous stop a few days early and arrived at Bogue Chitto early. They kindly moved the last few days of our reservation to cover our early arrival. We had picked site 20 for its south-facing orientation.

Let’s take a look at the Uplands Campground. Here are sites 1 and 2. Site 1 is generally reserved for the campground host.

Site 4 is a large open site. Actually most sites here are fairly open and most also have a raised tent pad, such as here.

This shows sites 5 and 6.All sites have full hookups.

Sites 10 and 11.

Sites 13-17.If you want a little shade, you should choose a site on the south side (right) of the road. And of course if you prefer more sun, then select a site on the north side (left) of the road.

Sites 25-22 (l-r).

Sites 30, 28 and 26 (front to rear).

Some sites, such as 33, have a wooden platform up against the parking pad, making a pleasant place to relax.

Sites 36 (foreground) and 34.

Sites 40 (left) and 39.Although some sites are fairly level, a good number slant a fair amount toward the rear of the site.

Sites 46 (left) and 44.

The small bathhouse is quite modern and provides 6 individual bathrooms with showers, sinks and toilets. There is a also small laundry room with two washers and two dryers.

Bogue Chitto has a second campground, the Bottomlands, located down near the river. Unfortunately I was not able to visit it due to the recent heavy rains that flooded the campground and the road leading to it.

There are quite a few miles of riding and hiking trails in the park. One is the Gorge Run Trail.

Even the trails received some damage from the rain, such as this nearly washed out culvert.
